Claude Code Plugins (2026): What Developers Install

By @pickwiseresearched with AIUpdated

The best Claude Code plugins, picked from the setups developers publish after pruning their own installs and from Hacker News threads where people say what they kept, not from install counts alone.

  1. Superpowers

The one plugin nearly every published setup has in common. Its skills make Claude brainstorm a spec, write a plan and work test-first before it touches code, and staff engineer Riddam Jain says it replaced his habit of coding before deciding what to build. That slowness is the catch: Hacker News users report it spending far more tokens than plain Claude Code, and one saw a small change spawn four plans and four agents.

    Install
    /plugin install superpowers@claude-plugins-official
    Installs
    1,009,371
    GitHub stars
    297,835
    License
    MIT
    Works with
Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Copilot CLI, OpenCode, Pi and others
    What it adds
Skills and hooks for brainstorming, planning, TDD, debugging and review
  2. TypeScript LSP

Language server plugins are the quiet winners in three separate field logs. They hand Claude real diagnostics, go-to-definition and references, so it sees the type error it just wrote and fixes it in the same turn. Anthropic ships one per language, including pyright-lsp, gopls-lsp, rust-analyzer-lsp and swift-lsp. The plugin only does the wiring: you still install the language server binary yourself.

    Install
    /plugin install typescript-lsp@claude-plugins-official
    Installs
    212,522
    License
    Apache-2.0
    Maintainer
    Anthropic
    Works with
Claude Code; needs typescript-language-server installed via npm
    What it adds
A language server: diagnostics, go-to-definition, find references
  3. Context7

Pulls current, version-specific library docs into the session so Claude stops writing APIs that were renamed two releases ago. Augusteo uses it constantly, and Luca Cavallin has a standing rule telling Claude to check it before answering from memory. It is an MCP server in plugin packaging, and Context7's free plan stops at 1,000 API calls a month. Riddam Jain admits his copy rarely fires.

    Install
    /plugin install context7@claude-plugins-official
    Installs
    417,801
    License
    MIT
    Maintainer
    Upstash
    Works with
Claude Code; Context7 also runs as an MCP server in other agents
    What it adds
One MCP server for up-to-date library documentation
  4. Plannotator

Opens Claude's plan in your browser, where you highlight, comment and send the notes back, and does the same for diffs. On Hacker News several people say it has replaced plan mode for them, and one prefers it to Superpowers because it does a single job. It is not in Anthropic's marketplace, so you add the maker's own first. One user's complaint: review comments are not kept alongside the commit.

    Install
    /plugin install plannotator@plannotator
    Marketplace
    /plugin marketplace add backnotprop/plannotator
    GitHub stars
    9,346
    License
    Apache-2.0 or MIT
    Works with
Claude Code, Codex, Copilot CLI, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Kiro, Droid, Amp, Pi
    What it adds
A hook and commands that open plans and diffs in a browser review page
  5. Security Guidance

Checks Claude's own code for security holes at three points: pattern warnings as it edits, a model review of the diff when a turn ends, and a deeper review on git commit. Kev Gary of Claude Camp calls it non-negotiable if you don't read every diff. Older guides describe only the edit-time hook. The diff review runs on the newest Opus by default, which uses your plan or API credit, and it needs Python 3.8 or newer.

    Install
    /plugin install security-guidance@claude-plugins-official
    Installs
    241,800
    License
    Apache-2.0
    Maintainer
    Anthropic
    Works with
Claude Code 2.1.144 or newer, with Python 3.8+
    What it adds
Hooks: edit-time warnings, a diff review each turn, a commit reviewer
  6. Compound Engineering

Every's plugin of 36 skills built around one loop: brainstorm, plan, build, review, then write down what you learned so the next change can read it. Hacker News commenters single it out as one of the few third-party skill sets worth installing. It is slow on purpose, and one user notes it can take many minutes between prompts while it explores.

    Install
    /plugin install compound-engineering
    Marketplace
    /plugin marketplace add EveryInc/compound-engineering-plugin
    GitHub stars
    25,483
    License
    MIT
    Works with
14 agent hosts, including Claude Code, Cursor and Codex
    What it adds
36 skills for a brainstorm, plan, build, review and capture loop
  7. claude-mem

Records what Claude does in each session and feeds the relevant parts into the next one, so you stop re-explaining the project. Samanvya Tripathi says it is the plugin he would keep if he could keep only one. Two catches: it only remembers from the day you install it, and the npx installer asks you to sign in and starts a 30-day trial of a hosted service that costs $30 a month if you subscribe. The local engine stays free.

    Install
    /plugin install claude-mem
    Marketplace
    /plugin marketplace add thedotmack/claude-mem
    Paid option
CMEM Pro hosted memory, $30/month after a 30-day trial; local engine free
    GitHub stars
    99,811
    License
    Apache-2.0
    What it adds
Hooks and a local worker that save and re-inject session memory
  8. context-mode

Runs bulky tool calls in a sandbox and passes back only what was asked for, so a huge browser snapshot or git log never fills the context. Tim Schipper ran it for weeks and prefers it to the far more starred Caveman because it shrinks the biggest source of tokens. He also warns of setup friction around Node versions and native SQLite. The license is Elastic 2.0, which is not an open-source license.

    Install
    /plugin install context-mode@context-mode
    Marketplace
    /plugin marketplace add mksglu/context-mode
    GitHub stars
    26,727
    License
    Elastic License 2.0
    Works with
Claude Code, Codex, Copilot CLI, Antigravity CLI, Pi and others
    What it adds
An MCP server, hooks and a routing skill that sandbox tool output
  9. Claude HUD

A status line that sits under the prompt and shows how full the context window is, your rate limits and, if you turn them on, running tools, subagents and todos. Tony Lee, who used it for a few weeks, calls the context bar the reliable part and says tool status can go stale when calls overlap. Setup needs one extra command after installing, /claude-hud:setup.

    Install
    /plugin install claude-hud
    Marketplace
    /plugin marketplace add jarrodwatts/claude-hud
    GitHub stars
    28,464
    License
    MIT
    Works with
    Claude Code only
    What it adds
A status line: context used, rate limits, tools, agents and todos
  10. Commit Commands

Three slash commands for the dull part of git: /commit writes a message in your repo's style, /commit-push-pr goes all the way to a pull request, and /clean_gone clears local branches whose remotes are gone. Mejba Ahmed calls it small, boring and used constantly. The pull request command needs the GitHub gh CLI installed and signed in, and commits carry a Claude Code attribution line.

    Install
    /plugin install commit-commands@claude-plugins-official
    Installs
    171,244
    License
    Apache-2.0
    Maintainer
    Anthropic
    Works with
Claude Code; pull requests need the gh CLI
    What it adds
    Slash commands: /commit, /commit-push-pr and /clean_gone
  11. Feature Dev

A /feature-dev command that walks through seven phases, from clarifying questions and codebase exploration by parallel agents to architecture, build and review. In Jenny Ouyang's test on a real app it removed four database tables from the design before any code was written. Augusteo skips it for small changes, and Mejba Ahmed finds it sits idle in maintenance weeks.

    Install
    /plugin install feature-dev@claude-plugins-official
    Installs
    256,017
    License
    Apache-2.0
    Maintainer
    Anthropic
    Works with
    Claude Code
    What it adds
A /feature-dev command and explorer, architect and reviewer agents
  12. Code Review

Runs /code-review on a pull request: four agents check it in parallel, each finding gets a confidence score, and only those at 80 or above are posted as a comment. Augusteo runs it on his own work before committing. Riddam Jain found he had never once invoked it, because Claude Code has a built-in review command too and he had been crediting the plugin for the built-in's work.

    Install
    /plugin install code-review@claude-plugins-official
    Installs
    438,525
    License
    Apache-2.0
    Maintainer
    Anthropic
    Works with
    Claude Code
    What it adds
A /code-review command that runs four review agents on a pull request
  13. Codex plugin for Claude Code

OpenAI's own plugin, which lets Claude Code hand a review or a stuck task to Codex without leaving the session. People use it for a second opinion from a different model: ilia-a on Hacker News reports surprisingly many findings, and Mejba Ahmed says a spot both models flag is nearly always real. You need a ChatGPT account or an OpenAI API key, and the usage counts against your Codex limits.

    Install
    /plugin install codex@openai-codex
    Marketplace
    /plugin marketplace add openai/codex-plugin-cc
    GitHub stars
    34,102
    License
    Apache-2.0
    Works with
Claude Code, with a ChatGPT account or OpenAI API key and Node.js 18.18+
    What it adds
Commands such as /codex:review and /codex:rescue, plus a rescue subagent
  14. Hookify

Turns a sentence such as "warn me when I use rm -rf" into a hook, saved as a small markdown rule that takes effect on the next tool call. Run with no arguments, it reads the conversation for things you corrected. Edi, a blogger running 39 automation jobs, adds a guard rule with it after each incident. Rules are regex patterns, so they catch only what you thought to describe.

    Install
    /plugin install hookify@claude-plugins-official
    Installs
    60,376
    License
    Apache-2.0
    Maintainer
    Anthropic
    Works with
    Claude Code
    What it adds
A /hookify command that writes warn or block hooks as markdown rules
  15. CC Safety Net

A hook that reads each shell command before it runs and blocks the destructive ones, such as git reset --hard, force pushes and rm -rf on your home folder, even when wrapped in bash -c. It was called claude-code-safety-net until a rename, and it now installs through an npx command that adds its own marketplace. The maker says plainly that it is not a sandbox. Outside recommendations are few so far.

    Install
    npx -y cc-safety-net@latest install --claude-code
    GitHub stars
    1,594
    License
    MIT
    Maintainer
    kenryu42
    Works with
16 coding agents, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI
    What it adds
A PreToolUse hook that blocks destructive commands and secret-file reads

How to choose

A plugin is a bundle. One install can carry skills, slash commands, subagents, hooks and MCP servers. A skill is a single instruction file Claude loads when it judges it relevant, and an MCP server is a connection to an outside tool, so a plugin can contain both. Type /plugin inside Claude Code to browse Anthropic's official marketplace, which is connected from the start, or run /plugin install name@claude-plugins-official. For anything else, add the maker's marketplace first with /plugin marketplace add owner/repo.

If you install one thing, make it Superpowers, plus the LSP plugin for your language. Add Security Guidance if you ship code you don't read line by line, Plannotator if you want to mark up plans in a browser, and Claude HUD to see how full the context is.

Every enabled plugin adds to the context on every turn, and several of the writers quoted here deleted more than they kept. Plugins run code on your machine with your permissions, and community marketplaces are not reviewed, so read what a plugin will install before you say yes. Two names trip people up. Claude Code has a built-in review command alongside the Code Review plugin. And Anthropic keeps a second, smaller marketplace in the anthropics/claude-code repo, where the loop plugin still goes by ralph-wiggum and not ralph-loop.

The list is ordered by how many independent people recommend each plugin, then by installs and GitHub stars.

Best Claude Skills (2026)

The best Claude skills are the SKILL.md packages that Hacker News users and independent reviewers keep recommending. This list ranks collections and single skills you can install today, with what each adds and its catch. If you want Claude to plan and test before it codes, get Superpowers. If you want it to question you before it starts, get grill-me from Matt Pocock's skills. For better-looking pages, start with frontend-design and add Impeccable to review the result. To build your own skills, or to make real Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files, use Anthropic's repository. For marketing work, use Corey Haines's pack. Skills install in three ways. In Claude Code, run /plugin install from a marketplace, or copy a folder into ~/.claude/skills. For most coding agents, npx skills add owner/repo does the copying. In the Claude apps, upload a ZIP under Customize > Skills. Skills follow the open Agent Skills format, so most of these also run in Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI. Older guides are now wrong in places. Claude Code has merged custom commands into skills. Superpowers and Matt Pocock's skills are in Anthropic's official marketplace, so adding a separate marketplace is no longer needed. The Karpathy repository moved to a new owner. Star counts are huge and say little, and a link list such as awesome-claude-skills installs nothing. A skill is instructions plus scripts that run with your agent's permissions. Snyk scanned 3,984 skills from ClawHub and skills.sh and found a critical security issue in 13.4% of them. Read a skill before you install it, and install a few, not all. Items are ordered by how many independent people recommend each one, then by GitHub stars. Everything here is free. OpenCode Plugins (2026): Which Still Work on OpenCode 2

The best OpenCode plugins, and which ones work on OpenCode 2, ranked by how many developers outside each project say they use them, in blog posts, hands-on reviews and Hacker News threads. If your sessions run out of context, start with Dynamic Context Pruning. If you want the agent to plan before it codes, get Superpowers, or Plannotator to review plans in a browser. For a team of subagents, oh-my-opencode-slim is the one that runs on the current version. For memory that stays on your machine, opencode-mem. The thing no plugin page says loudly: OpenCode 2.0 came out in September 2026 with a new plugin system, and plugins written for OpenCode 1 do not load on it. Older guides tell you to add a package name to the "plugin" list in opencode.json, which OpenCode 1 then installs at startup. On OpenCode 2 the list is called "plugins" and there is a command for it, opencode plugin add <package>. Check the Works with line on each pick before you upgrade. OpenCode 1 still gets releases. Two names to keep straight. The OpenCode here is the one at opencode.ai, now in the anomalyco/opencode repository on GitHub. An earlier Go project with the same name, opencode-ai/opencode, is archived and continues as Crush. And oh-my-opencode was renamed oh-my-openagent. Plugins that sign you in with a Claude or Gemini subscription are left out. Google and Anthropic treat that as against their terms, the popular Antigravity one is archived, and accounts have been flagged. A plugin runs with your full permissions, so read what you install. Ordered by how many independent recommendations each plugin has, then by downloads and stars. A plugin that does not load on the current OpenCode ranks below the ones that do. Best Pi Coding Agent Extensions (2026)

The best extensions for the Pi coding agent (some people call them plugins), picked from the setups developers publish and the write-ups that tested them, not from download counts alone. Pi is deliberately bare: no sub-agents, no plan mode, no permission prompts. You add what you miss with one command, pi install npm:<package>. If you are starting out, three cover most of the gap with Claude Code: pi-subagents for delegation, pi-web-access for search, and rpiv-ask-user-question so the model asks before it guesses. Add Plannotator if you want plan mode, and pi-permission-system if you don't want the agent free to run anything. Two things have changed that older guides miss. Pi has had MCP support built in since version 0.99, so pi-mcp-adapter is now an upgrade and no longer a requirement. And several popular names have lookalikes: npm has at least four other packages named pi-mcp-adapter under other people's scopes, and more than one /btw extension, so install by the exact name shown here. Extensions run with the same access to your machine that Pi has. Pi's catalog lists more than 5,000 packages, so read the source of anything that touches your shell or credentials, and pin versions you depend on. Ordered by how many independent users and reviewers recommend each one (Kay Rhodes's setup guide, Composio's tested top ten, developers on Hacker News and Pi's own GitHub discussions), then by npm downloads and GitHub stars. Downloads count automated installs too, so treat them as a rough signal. Numbers checked October 10, 2026.

Best Figma MCP Servers (2026): Free and Official Options

The best Figma MCP servers for turning designs into code with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or VS Code, and for letting an agent edit the canvas, ranked by independent tests and recommendations. Start with Figma's own server if your AI client is on Figma's approved list and you have a Dev or Full seat, which costs $12 a month billed annually for Dev. On the free Starter plan, or a View or Collab seat, Figma allows only 20 calls a month, and Framelink, which goes through Figma's API, runs into a similar limit of 20 file reads. The plugin servers, Figma Console MCP, TalkToFigma and figwright, work through a plugin in Figma's desktop app instead, so those limits don't apply. Read or write: Framelink only reads. Figma's server writes to the canvas from its remote version, free during the beta and a paid, usage-based feature after that. The plugin servers read and write, so keep your client's tool approvals on: a write changes the live file. Ordered by how many independent tests and recommendations each server has, in blog posts, videos and Hacker News threads. Stars and downloads only break ties. Prices checked October 17, 2026.

Best OpenClaw Skills (2026)

The best OpenClaw skills, chosen from what developers and reviewers who run the agent say they keep installed, then checked against each skill's source and its ClawHub security audit. For email and calendar, start with Gog. For code, GitHub. For long articles, videos and podcasts, Summarize. For notes, Obsidian or Notion. To stop the agent repeating a mistake, self-improving agent. For cleaner prose, Humanizer. Safety first. ClawHub, the registry, lets anyone with a GitHub account publish, and a skill acts with whatever access your agent has. Security firms have counted more than a thousand malicious skills there since January 2026, and in June Unit 42 and Trail of Bits each showed skills getting past its scanners. OpenClaw's own June data labelled 25,504 of 67,453 skill versions suspicious and 206 malicious. Every skill page now has a security audit with an outcome such as Pass or Review. Read it, and the SKILL.md, before you install. Older guides are out of date in three ways. Most of the skills they tell you to install now ship with OpenClaw and switch on when their command-line tool is present. Web search, self-learning and memory search are built in, and Tavily has a first-party plugin, so the Tavily and QMD skills are no longer needed. And names are copied: at least five publishers use the slug gog, so install with the owner, as in @steipete/gog. Skill Vetter and Capability Evolver are on most lists and left out here. Skill Vetter's publisher links to a GitHub profile that no longer exists. ClawHub's audit marks Capability Evolver for review because it can run jobs handed to it by a remote server. Skills are ordered by how many independent reviewers and users recommend them, then by downloads or stars. All are free. Numbers checked October 11, 2026.

Best OpenCode Alternatives (2026)

The best OpenCode alternatives are the terminal coding agents developers say they moved to in blog posts and Hacker News threads, checked against independent hands-on reviews. If OpenCode feels bloated, get Pi, or oh-my-pi if you want Pi with the tools already built in. If you want one vendor's best models at a flat monthly price, get Claude Code or Codex CLI. Codex is the one that sandboxes commands by default. If you want open source with any model and no single company in charge, get Goose. If you want the nicest terminal interface, get Crush. If you already pay for GitHub Copilot, its CLI is included. A few things the makers' pages won't tell you. OpenCode 2 has a new plugin API, so OpenCode 1 plugins don't run on it, and that is a reason recent switchers give on Hacker News. Crush grew out of an older Go project that was also called OpenCode, and its license is source-available, not open source. Gemini CLI stopped serving personal accounts on June 18, 2026, and Antigravity CLI replaced it. Aider has had no commits since May 22, 2026. Kilo CLI is built on OpenCode, so switching to it changes little. A free agent still needs a model: you pay a provider per token or run one on your own hardware. The list is ordered by how many independent developers and reviewers recommend each agent, then by GitHub stars, then by price. Prices checked October 11, 2026.
